How to Get to Coconut Tree Hill
Coconut Tree Hill is very easy to reach from the main strip of Mirissa. You have two main routes to choose from:
Option 1: Walking via Mirissa Beach (Most Scenic)
If you are already on Mirissa Beach, walk east (to the left when facing the sea). You will pass Parrot Rock, walk around a series of rocky bays, and follow the shoreline until you see the red hill rising ahead. It is a beautiful 10-to-15-minute walk along the sand.
(Note: If the tide is high or the sea is rough, this route can be difficult. Use the roadside route instead.)
Option 2: Via the Main Road (Easiest)
You can take a quick 5-minute tuk-tuk ride or walk from the main Matara Road. Ask your driver to drop you near the access path to Coconut Tree Hill (near “The Snap” restaurant or Bandaramulla Temple). From the main road drop-off point, it is a simple 5-to-10-minute walk up a dirt path to the top of the hill.

- Wear Shoes with Grip: The red soil on the hill is made of loose gravel and dirt. It can be very slippery, especially if it has rained. Leave the loose flip-flops at home and wear sandals with straps or sneakers.
- Watch Out for Falling Coconuts: These are active palm trees! Always be mindful of where you stand or sit.
- Protect Your Camera Gear: The hill is highly exposed to the wind, which blows salty sea spray onto the land. Wipe down your camera lens frequently.
